A recent post, titled Free Data!, drew comments about some aspects of the availability and cost of official data in Canada. I was therefore intrigued to come across a recent advertisement for the position of Professor of Official Statistics, at an Australian University.
The position, which is advertised here, is being established in the School of Mathematical Sciences at The Univesity of Technology Sydney (in Sydney Australia), effective next year. This is a partnership venture with the Australian Bureau of Statistics, and in my view is highly commendable. In particular, this augers well for the future interaction between the suppliers and (academic) users of official statistics - at least in Australia.
